E5 wiring photos.  If you click on the paperclip below the photos they will be downloaded. If you click on the photo once, a larger image is displayed.

I'd recommend you place the BEC and backup guard in the rear to minimize the length of the output wires, and lengthen the input wires. This provides much better performance from the BEC.

Placing the BEC and the Scorpion Backup Guard in the rear is going increase the distance that you must move your batteries forward to compensate for the extra weight behind the main shaft.  When running 8S, 10S or 12S this is not a issue due to the length of the pack. When running a large 6S pack I have to locate my battery pack about 1 1/4 inches beyond the front of the frame to obtain the correct forward, aft CG.  This doesn't sound like an issue, however, if I move the battery pack much further forward I will be unable to get a battery strap around it.   Further, I like to keep switching power regulators (IE: BEC) as far from my radio equipment as possible.  The average impedance of a 12" JR heavy duty servo extension with connectors is .001 ohms. The voltage drop across a single 12" extension at 20 amps (CC BEC Pro max) would be 0.02 volts (R x I = V).  Connecting both power leads would further reduce the voltage drop to 0.01 volts. Only an oscilloscope is going to see any performance difference from the BEC at a 10mV drop.  Since electricity ( not electrons ) travels  at the speed of light a 12" extension will not slow down the throttle signal from the ESC to the receiver / FBL unit by any humanly appreciable amount as mentioned else where.

I plan to set up my Heli like Rich's so if I need he'll and he is kind enough to assist it will be similar.  Just picked up my electronic parts, haven't opened anything.  What is the back up guard?

It is more or less a short duration backup battery in case of a BEC failure. I am looking for a better solution as the Scorpion Backup Guard does not alert you of the failure in flight and you could quickly exhaust the 500mAh pack.  Telemetry (low voltage) would would alert you if your radio has that capability but, at the moment mine does not.   As I have not had an ESC failure in flight I don't know if I would notice the Backup Guard had taken over for a failed BEC.  I'm sure the servos would begin to respond more slowly as the Backup Guard's output is only 5V.  I'm sure Matt would notice the change but, I don't have Matt's sensitivity to changes in the helicopter.

Please see the follow on post below ...... I stand newly informed  ;D Thanks Rock!

Rich,

I run the scorpion back up guard on my E7 and have tested a few scenarios and this is what I came up with. I actually flew my E7 with the power wire pushed into a EC5 connector and as soon as I flipped it the wire came loose and the backup guard done exactly what it needed to do and I was able to land it safely. Second test was to fly sport 3D just with the guard on by passing the bec and I drained 384 milliamps out. Not to bad. The servos were very slow to response to we're the average pilot will see the change in there servos and the maneuvers become slower than usual. I hope this helps out.. All in all the backup guard is a great product..

Also if you loose a bec in flight when you land if you look at the little red light it will be flashing as well...
