Title: e5s
Post by: Cliff Chmiel on October 15, 2015, 12:20:46 AM
thinking of stretching my e5 to e5s  the 626 I know I need the kit and blades , need some help on motor, and battery size, want to run 12s , Hoping it will fly better, and improve autos, and maybe a little more flight time. I just love my e7 good flight times, and just great autos. Thanks for any help Cliff

I stretched mine but went 8c setup (2x pulse ultra 3700mAh, 4 cell packs) with a 890kv motor.  I'm getting anywhere from 6 to 7.5 minutes flight time, depending on how long I stay in IU2 and the wind.  I know you said you want to go 12c, but thought I would share.  I do like my E5s better in the 626 config than the 556 config.  Just a very versatile model.

Hello Cliff!

I love my E5s! I have tried many configurations but I will share with you my favorite as I am sure others will too.

First, all you need is one of the E5 Stretch kits.  I strongly recommend the 626 stretch kit if you love autos. The 606 auto well, but the 626 auto super nice! But they are still very snappy and can 3D great!

My favorite setup:
Scorpion HKIII4025-550 - Great 12s motor for a 600. The 4035-560 is also a good fit if you like crazy power but not needed.
Edge 120HV or Talon 120HV esc - If running Edge I use straight 2S lipos
12t Pinion
1900/2050/2150 RPM - The 626 just does't need higher headspeed as the E5 is so light as a 600. So I spend more time at 2050 for longer flight times.
12s 3300mAh stick packs. I have ran 4000s and 3100s. The 3300 offer the best balance between flight time and weight.  I can get 6 minutes on a 3300 pack. But I am not doing hard 3D. I am a sport, big air pilot.

Chris has a nice setup, mine is similar on my E5s 626 mm but I have gone for a 10s configuration, as I had that setup on my Logo 600.

HKIII 4035-560 14t pinion
10s 4000mah
120A Opto ESC (SJ Hawk) Vbar Governor
1700/1950/2050
2s Lipo

And I am really happy with this setup. I do low headspeed soft 3D at 1700 and medium 3D/big air flying at 1950 and average 7 minutes flights with this setup. Auto well and is currently my favourite Heli in my fleet.

Thanks Guys, I think I'm going with Chris setup, I have so many 6s batteries, Going to order the 626 kit I really like to do autos, I'm running the cc120hv all ready. I just have move my bec under the esc like I did on my e7, leave the bottom wide open for batteries. My e5 was setup on 1 6s 5000 and been great to back into this hobby with, simple to setup up flies  great, autos are real tricky, When I got the e7se with 716 I could hover for 20+ seconds at the bottom of the auto, made doing autos fun again. That's one or the reasons I got the e5 if I wanted to stretch I could. With about 250 flights on her with no real problems, just cleaning dead bugs off blades. Time to upgrade. 1 quick question does the kit have the tt drive ends with the kit or do I order them separate ? Thanks for your help

The kit does not come with the TT ends. The kits come with everything you need to take a new E5 kit and built it as a E5s.  If you are stretching an existing bird you will have to either reuse TT ends, or just buy new which is what I would recommend.  Don't forget the Control Rod ends too.

I think I got everything order, kit, 626 blades, tt ends, control rod ends, Ball links, tt bearing, bearing housing with o rings, Teflon tube for control rod, Will the 4025-550 motor give more air time then the 4035-560 motor?

I ran a e5s for about 3 years trouble free in a 12s configuration and 606 blades and a 4035-560. I think that either motor will work fine and flight times will greatly depend on gearing, head speed and type of flying.

My setup was:
Scorpion 4035-560
12t pinion
Rail 606 mains
Rail 106 tails
Headspeed - mode 1: 1750, mode 2: 2150, mode 3: 2250
12s 3300 batteries
CC 120 Edge
CC BEC Pro

At the 2250 HS and 606's I got a solid 4mins of craziness. If I slowed it down to 1750 I'd get about 5.5-6 mins of flight time and enough HS to do 3d. At the 1750hs there is a bit of collective management that came with it. I used 1750 for buddy boxing people and teaching collective management. If you really want to have some collective management fun strap in a single 6s pack and do some slow-mo(1000rpm) flying. Slow-mo also would give me about 8-10mins of sport flying and smooth, controlled 3d. At 2250 my motor would come down fairly warm but not concerning.

I would recommend running 106 tails and installing the 4:5 or 4:9 tail ratio if you are going to 626 mains, you may need the extra tail rotor RPM. At my altitude(6000' asl) I needed to speed up the tail to the 4:9 ratio but when I went to FF's at lower altitudes I did end up bringing the tail gain down a little to make the tail happy but other than that it was good.

I hope this helps!

Thanks Josh, I running the faster tail with 96, your right might have to 106 like my e7, Still trying to pick a motor, 4025-550 on sale 169.  or 4035-560 at 200. God I love this hobby

I'm running the 3536-510 with 626 mains, 4.9:1 and 96 tails. It's more than enough power, gets wicked at 2375 rpm. It's a blast to fly, I love that machine.

If you're stretching to 626 you might consider 3700-4100 packs to help balance out the longer tail and give a little more run time. Currently I'm using Spyder 4000 30c, I'd probably go for as high of a c rating as I could from any other manufacturer.
