Title: introduction
Post by: jimmy blackmore on April 28, 2012, 06:31:04 AM
Hi my name is jimmy, have been flying about 3 years now mostly at Atlanta RC, just won a ready to fly E6/E7 at the huntsville fun fly and would like to thank Matt and Amy/ synergy helicopter, Bert/ helidirect, Progressive rc, Futaba, Huntsville heli club and probably one or two more that i can't remember.
Have been sitting here most of the week with a big stupid grin on my face, but managed to put everything together and have enjoyed the build and will enjoy every second of every flight.
Attend your local fun flies and support these companies because you never know what you might bring home.
Thanks again guys and gals, and i hope that i can continue to give to this hobby as these fine people have given to me.

You are so luck Jimmy, have you flown it yet? built it as E6 or E7? If not wait until you do, it flies like no other heli.

Built as a 7 because it came with 696 rail blades, hope to maiden today or tomorrow.
Still don't think i am worthy of such a gift but i will try to enjoy every flight.

This is the best gift you can get in this industry, or hobby. The only problem with this gift is that it means that all your other helis, will not be flying much anymore. Have fun.

Maiden flights today, 5 to be exact, super impressed, very smooth, very quiet and very precise.
Was concerned about the belt but seems to be a non issue.
Thanks again everybody, still don't think i am worthy but i will try to enjoy it.
Matt you did an excellent job on a fantastic heli.

Jimmy, that's awesome, can't wait to see it fly at the ATL fun fly :)
Not surprised at all that you like the belt, Matt had hundreds of flights on his with no issues and so did many others  ;D
We'd love to see some pictures here or on Facebook of your new heli, woot woot!

You are welcome to fly it anytime, but having ESC heating problems right now, can only fly about 2 to 2.5 minutes before thermal shutdown.
Tried 14 tooth pinion and now 13 tooth and can't seem to get the ESC to run cool although the motor is only about 150 degrees.
Have lowered the timing and raised it and no change, have all other settings related to the motor correct.

Jimmy How is your gear mesh??

Kevin

Gear mesh is good, a very tiny amount of play, gear not hot, motor not hot, high temp at ESC according to the castle log is 265 degrees.
No low voltage, lowest was 44.4 and highest amp spike was 136 for a nano second.
All this according to the castle log.
Battery pack makes no difference either, running both the spyder 30c and pulse 45c.
Also not belt related as i thought maybe belt to tight, switched to torque tube and still no difference.
May be gearing related as it got worse when i switched from 13 to 14 tooth pinion.
Was going to try 12 but can't get 2100 or 2150 according to the castle gov.

Which Motor are you running??  14th pinion  with castle 120.  No issues with temps.  curious with your issue, I run a Hacker 12L..

Running the quantum 4530-500 or 500 kv, had the ESC high up on the tray because of the length of throttle lead, just finished making a Y connector/ extension to allow me to hook up the castle link without unplugging the lead every time and have moved the ESC as far away from the motor as possible and reinstalled the 13 tooth pinion.
Will give this a try maybe next weekend or one night this week and see what happens.
Thanks for the help kevin, any ideas would be appreciated.

Jimmy, are you enjoying your new heli in the lovely, I mean ridiculously hot and humid ATL weather?

Yes i am enjoying the E7a lot, incredible heli and flies like no other, super smooth, quiet and tracks like no other heli i have flown.
Anybody that flies it or watches it fly only has positive comments about the performance.
Finally got all the small kinks worked out, first time with high power electric, then about two weeks ago put it in inverted full power, OUCH, but what a tank, i thought for sure it was totaled but no, frames fine, just the usual mechanical repairs.
Just finished rebuild and flew today, man what a heli, super impressive.
This one is right at the top of my favorite list and then realized that i haven't flown any of my big nitros due to being hooked on flying this one.
Thanks again guys i couldn't be happier.
