I'm proud to now own my first Synergy! I always wanted to build a Synergy, however I got an incredible deal on a brand new, twice hovered, Synergy E5 for less than half of the cost to build!
I've been flying it for a couple of weeks now and am about to hit flight number 50!! This is an amazing machine that flies beautifully! gone are the days of me flying Align :)

Actually, that brings me to a question. What type of packs are recommended for the E7SE? I assume that most run it as a 12S. I'm looking at buying a handful of packs for the E5, but it would be awesome if those packs could double as E7 packs down the road. Any recommendations there?

I like 4500mah packs in the E7SE for some weight savings over 5000s. In my E7SE night rig 4000s or 4500s either one work well with good flight time (5+ minutes) as I fly it at lower headspeeds.
I run 12s 4000mah packs in my E5 626mm and absolutely love it. They give me about 4 to 4.5min of 3d, they fit well and balance the stretch perfectly.

You would really love the E7se as well. 4000 packs work well and depending on your flight style, gearing, HS, etc., you can even use 3700 packs to save weight and get 4 minute flights.
