I have 2 N7's on the one that I have flown for a year now, I noticed slack between the spur gear and pin on the transmission gear box. My new one that has never been flown has minimal slack. Is there a possibility it will shear the pin or is this normal. It has been through 1 crash in which it stripped the bevel gear?

It is normal. The gear is constantly loaded so the slack will not be there in flight.

After a lot of run time the pin can wear into the pinion, particularly if the pinion is not secured to the shaft with retaining compound. I would recommend using retaining compound and while you leave it to cure turn the gear against the pin in the direction it would be loaded in flight. You will notice less transmission slop and less pinion wear from the pin.

Charlie, +1 for Daniel, I know you fly the hell out of your twin N7's drop a dollop of green locktite in the slot on top of the Spur Gear , make sure it's clean of any residue (nitro / dirt) .. That's a hardened gear and that pin can wear. Do that and your good to go.

I noticed my N7 tail rotor is getting pretty sloppy also. I have around 1/16th to 1/8th revolution of play in what seems like mostly the front tail box. Seems like it is the pin wearing in the slot in the bevel gear. I'm getting ready to take it apart now and inspect it.
