N5 Tail
« on: September 16, 2012, 01:38:57 AM »
Hi all

Just a quick one.Ive pinned my boom through the tail box so as to stop it turning left.Ive used two small bolts so as not to come anywhere near the belt.Question is has anyone else done this or had this issue.I was told by Ian that on speaking to Matt that tail box movement is down to the overtightning of the two clamps in the tail box and it crimps it.

Many thanks

Never had to do it to the N5 although I have upgraded tail to N5C and still have not had to do it. Tail does turn if you crash though!  :) It's ok if you have pinned tail... couldn't hurt.

Hi,

On my N5 i have never had the boom twist but what can happen when overtightened the boom is that it can become crushed, in effect reducing its overall diameter so the boom clamps don't clamp as they should.

+1 for Ross, I have seen this happen on other peoples N5's.. Clean the inside diameter of the boom clamps and if you can replace the tail boom and reassemble in reverse order. Just be careful not to over tighten again. You'll be surprised it doesn't take that much.. If your Tail Boom clamps are suspect, Drop me a Pm and I'll send you a new set. ;) I'll even send you some new Bolts in the event yours may be stretched do to over tightening.. ;D

Hi all
Thank you for all youre replies....
Kevin thats a awsome offer but its proberbly down to over tighting.Ive a spare boom so ill refit and take it from there. As mentioned I've drilled two small holes and pinned the boom through the first and second set of clamps on the inside(tail blade side). So ill get a new sets of clamps.

On the plus side this heli rocks....seem to be flying it more and more and it uses loads less fuel than the 700

Many thanks
