Swash longer balls, 107-106 question
« on: October 03, 2012, 01:25:59 PM »
If you find the cyclic percentages are very high and the roll and tumble rate are still not fast enough, there is an option! Instead of using the short ball(107-106) on the inner swash, try using the long ball(107-108). These are the balls that connect to the pitch links.  IMPORTANT!! If you perform this modification, make sure you trim approximately 1mm of threads off the long ball with a file or Dremel Tool. If you do not trim the threads they will bind with the swash ball housing causing the swash to feel very still.

When you do this mod should you replace all 4 or just the two on the links, what about the two on the washout links?

The balls on the swash driver aren't adding or retracting from  your cyclic, or collective for that matter. They are simply holding the head phasing.  Ball length is irrelevant.

Just be careful to put the links on the right balls should you ever have to remove the head for any reason.

Hi Dave,

If you do this modification, all you need to change are the two short balls on the inner swashplate ring where the swash to rotorhead linkages locate. The reaming two links on the inner swash ring are to locate the swash driver assembly.

Hope this helps,
Cheers,

+1 for Ross and Cdsexton

I remember when Matt helped me out with that mod over a year ago and I couldn't believe the difference in speed it made.
