Vbar gyro gain
« on: January 08, 2013, 11:48:54 AM »
Spoke to Rich about this but wanted some input from Spektrum users to be sure.
I did a maiden (1 foot off the ground, but still a maiden! Lol) and noticed some tail wag. I'm going to get the Boto sizer on the tail to get it very smooth, but the other issue is I had gain turned on in the transmitter. I have a DX7s so in the transmitter should I inhibit in the gyro section if the transmitter or just 0%?

Do you have Pro or Express software?  Slow wag or fast wag?

I have express.  Just did my maiden flight, both battery packs were fun and I can this Heli is incredible!
But I still have a little wag.  It isn't much and it's hard to say the speed.  Sort of in between fast and slow (?).
Could it be my headspeed is too slow?  I think it is about 2200 on IU and 2100 normal. Maybe if I raise it to 2300 IU and 2200 normal it will help.

I have Pro on a Sliverline and have the same wag.  I believe my headspeed (I've stretched the E5 to 606s) is in the 2200 range as well.  I plan to up my headspeed and add 4.5 tail ratio gears and I'll see if that helps.

If you do not size the tail pitch links and tail pitch control rod links your tail will wag at lower head speeds.  There is a easy check, disconnect the control rod from the servo, operate the push rod by hand.  If the operation is not silky smooth something is binding, check your links and push rod supports.

You should turn off gain in dx7. Gain in vbar is in software only. I have 2x E5s and no wag at all, even in cold temps at
-5f . As Rich mentioned, size your tail links to be silky smooth.

On express you have to use tx gain. Slider in software isn't adjustable manually.

With pro you "can" change it to use tx gain but I would never. Vbar does a great Job handling the tail at the recommended gain levels in pro.

I guess I can update to pro sometime soon.  Seems like I won't be able to fly for awhile anyways. About to call Futaba to see what to do.  I did the Boto sizer on all of the links, they are nice and smooth now.

So for pro software all I have to do is plug it in and the gyro will do the rest, or is there something I have to input for the "automatic" gyro?  About to possibly update this weekend, maybe I will have all worked out when the other servos come in.  I also am going to spend time in Friday checking my tail pushrod, I bet it wasn't very straight.  Once it is perfectly straight I'll try to get a little glue in but it was already very tight.

It's not automatic. You still have to fine tune but the pro software has a slider with recommendations or the size heli you are running. These recommendations will get you very close.

You will still need to make minor adjustments. But with pro you can adjust the P gain and I gain independent of over all gain.

On pro you also gain the ability to adjust  not only cyclic gain but over all agility. Pro also activates the paddle sim feature which allows you to adjust responsiveness off center stick.

Very nice.  What is P and I? (Magnum?)

Just took off the servos.  Hopefully something else will come in soon.  It would be great if things came in before the MLK holiday.  That will potentially be the first couple of days without rain.  It is supposed to rain just about every day for the next 9 days, with maybe one day off.  Good sim time.

Very nice.  What is P and I? (Magnum?)

P = proportional gain, compares the rate given by rx with the existing and the difference will be multiplied with this and the gyro gain, output to servo.

I = integral, heading gain, compares the angle difference over time and gives out the difference to the servo multiplied by this value and the gyro gain

Stop gain is like more P gyro gain at a tail stop. When Vbar detects a stop, the gain will be increased during the stop to make it more crisp. You may want to check out this link: http://www.vstabi.info/en/node/1057
