That was fun while it lasted
« on: March 02, 2013, 06:32:06 PM »
Well,

I decided to really practice autos today with the E7.  Man, hitting that TH the first few times is tough!  Everything went pretty good until about the 10th one and I came in a little too hot.  I ended up breaking both of the landing struts and destroyed a pretty new set of Rail tail blades.  Oh well, that's WAY better than my average crash, LOL.

Once you learn to auto you will realize the value anytime you are forced to do one. They can easily say you tons of money.

Sucks Rodney but I have had a couple forced autos lately. I will be practicing mine too!

Do you have an ESC/FBL controller combo that supports an 'auto bailout' mode? This feature can save you from a hard landing when practicing autos. It just gives you a way to bypass the the slow spool up when you find you are coming in too hot when practicing autos.

I've been saying this for the past two years...this year I practice autos....Before flying Synergy I had to preform a few and rarely missed. Hopefully this year I will start practicing them. Congrats on yours.

Unfortunately, right now the SK540 and CC ESCs do not get along when it comes to setting up bailout and that's the combo I have on my E7.  I did shoot some autos with my E5 yesterday because I'm using the Scorpion commander ESC on it and I have bailout set up.

I should have my N5C in the air by next week and it should be pretty good for practicing autos.

I was actually doing pretty good with the E7 and I'll probably go ahead and try again with it.  I'll probably buy some plastic tail blades, first, though. :)

That's good to know. I was considering a 540 and wasn't aware that it had no viable auto bailout mode with CC ESc's. It sounds like the 540 does support auto bailout with the scorp ESC? If so, is the bail out done entirely in the ESC firmware? Or, do you set some of it up in the 540?

Knuckledragger sorry to hear about your mishap. I do an auto at the end if every flight. Also the last flight of the day I do 6 or 7 autos to stay confident.

Be careful with the CC bailout numbers you use. Depending on the value the motor spool up can be very slow or fast. You will need to experiment with values.

There is a video on the Castle web site that details how to set up the auto bailout properly. If done properly, there is no experimentation involved.

There is actually a work-around to make the SK540 bailout work with the CC but you end up with no soft start.

On my E5, with the Scorpion ESC, I'm actually using the governor and bailout features on the ESC because the SK540 governor isn't working for me after the last firmware update.   :o

Yeah, that's what I meant in my last post.  For now, I'm just not going to worry about it.  Bailout's for pu$$ies, LOL.
