gov. on cc 120hv
« on: March 26, 2013, 06:50:12 PM »
I've been enjoying my e5 for the past few day now and all was ok except a few issues I had with the cc esc,...I'm new to cc esc and was still tinkering with the settings,...originally I had it set on heli and gov. mode,..with autorotation enabled ...I went with the gov. gain at the..*low setting because I wasnt sure and the head speed change was also on default,...I flew pretty good,..tic toc and all ...but it would bogg just a bit if I went hard on the pump or went for a big air flip,....but atleast it was flying,...so today I read that there were bailout settings ..so I tried them,....it stated to start out with medium gov. gain and 14 head speed change,.....well I spooled her up and did about 3 pitch pumps after I Idled up to 1,..and it quite ......completely,....I was waiting for a last minute spool up and ..NADA....nothing,...zilch,....caught me abit off guard but I think I got lucky and just busted the plastic landing gear,......any Ideas???,....what did I do wrong ,....where has all th luv gone...lol,...seriously though,...I'm abit nervous to try anything with this esc now.

That sounds interesting... Can you post your castle setup file and maybe detail out how you setup your throttle and hold curves in the radio?

If you aren't sure how to get the setup file, just go into the castle link and save the setup.  Rename to a .txt file. Then you can copy the contents from notebook and paste into a post.

With the PC Castle software running, ESC connected, and powered by a lipo battery, go to File>>Save Settings.  This will save the ESC parameter settings.  Attach the file using the "Attachment and other options".

Include your transmitter Throttle and Throttle hold curves.

sorry guys ,,..I've powered up the esc to check it was still working and don't think I have the setting anymore,...and to be honest I still don't know how to fiddle with the computer like you ask,...I did power it up without blades and it seems to be working ok,...the only thing I think it could have been was that I mistakenly thought it was in idle 1 but still could have been in normal,...could have reset into softstart ....or a glitch in the rx...my appologies.

OK, after you setup your governor/bailout/etc, did you push the "update" button on the lower right of the CastleLink screen?  If not, then none of your setting were actually sent to the esc.  Certain units, like a vbar will automatically update as you make changes but the Castle controllers will not.  This sounds like a simple mistake but I've made it before.

ok,..I've done it again,..but atleast I hear the 3 beeps from the cc esc,...with the change from low gain on gov. to the medium gain and 14 headspeed change,..it flys good but it still cuts the motor off and 3beeps from the esc,..repeatedly,...what does the 3 beeps indicate,..maybe it's in my settings that I fouled up.

I've come to a conclusion that it may be a overcurrent protection from the cc esc,..I'm running 14t pinion ,13.5 pitch + - I think what is causing the thermal is the higher gain and quicker head speed change,..anyone can feel free to chime in ,..I need all th info I can get,..the head speed that this occurs at is 2350,..my Idle one speed,..I have 2500 set for idle 2,..but not sure if running a higher head speed could help ,...lipos used were pulse ultra 4500 45c and thunder power 5000 65c,..both worked ok till the change in gain and headspeed change,...would I be able to help this problem with a cap pack installed,..or what other options could I try,,..thanx for any help anyone can share.

From Castle's User guide:

3 beeps and flashes - Over-Current:
Current draw exceeded the safe
capacity of the controller. Reduce current draw
by changing to a smaller propeller, different gear
combination, or fewer cells.

You'll need to download the log and see what it's doing.  What motor are you running?  Is this a 550 or 600?  6 or 12S?

I'm running the kde 1175 6s,....550 ,,,,it's on my e5,....would adding capacitors help,...again,..I flys well I'll do mild 3d just to test it ,...it's when I pump hard,..pitch pumps and hard manuvers that it'll go thermal,..also,.....it didn't cut when I had the defaults set....low gain and I think head speed change was like 5,...so that gave it a bit of time to sag the motor abitt but not completely cuttoff,....I'm ordering capacitors to put in parallel for the esc to aid the amp draw,...I'm 99.9 % sure that's what it could be,..on the bench it doesn't quite on me,....so that's telling me it's occuring under load,....again,....these are my deductions and could very well be something else....if anyone else would like to shed some lite on this,I'm all ears,,....thanx for any and all of your help.

Assuming you are using semi descent batteries, there should be no need for extra capacitors.  The Ripple voltage would give you objective information on that.

Without seeing the Castle settings, my guess is that the "Current Limiting" is still set at default value.  If that's the case, change the Current Limiting to "Insensitive".  It will read something like "Insenstive (180A)"

ok,.I wasn't sure what insensitive meant on the setting,...I had it set to 120,. now to wait till the new landing gear come in,....lol.....but I have to say this,...this is by far one of the toughest birds i've flown,....I've broken 2 sets of landing gear on hard autos and one blade,....and everything else is still pretty much intact,...after the first mishap,..I checked the head and swash,..It was still level,....no gears were stripped no boom bent,...no damage to the frame,...nada,....I could be sad for th hard landing but realy though I'm kinda tickled how tough she realy is....thanx again for this much needed input,...I'll be making the necessary update tonight.

Yes, changing the Current Limiting from 120 to Insensitive should fix that problem.  Still, consider attaching your Castle PDF settings file for further review.
