Removing the M5 bolts in the head
« on: March 18, 2013, 06:18:36 AM »
Afternoon all,

been away Ill and finally back in a fit state to continue my E7 build, i'm up to checking the head over and greasing the parts needed but for the life of me I cannot undo those M5 bolts, they are in there solid.

any tips to get them loose to i can undo them without damaging the head?

A little heat will usually loosen up the loktite.  Apply a large soldering iron to the head for a few seconds. Alternatively a blowtorch works.

Hi Jack,

Great tip from Alan, i use the same method. A little heat applied from the tip of a soldering iron is usually enough to soften the loctite.

Let us know how you get on,
Cheers,

Probably should clarify. Apply heat to the head of the bolt:-)

Cheers

I've been using some of these at work recently and I really like the long/short design.  The long end has a ball end and the short end is a straight hex.
