Probably jinx myself but...
« on: July 23, 2013, 04:37:40 PM »
I've gotten 25 flights on my E5 since Saturday.  I'm still not overly impressed with the Vertigo motor, though.

Yay!  Just don't sat that too loudly :-)
Is the vertigo not enough power?

It just does not seem as powerful as the 600MX that it replaced.  I'm using a Scorpion ESC, so no logging, I'm just going by how much more often it sounds like it's bogging.  It's actually got plenty of power and it may just sound different.  Without having some actual data, I can't really say it's less powerful.  It is a very smooth running motor and it seems to stay pretty cool.  I keep forgetting to take my IR gun to check the temps on it.

Up to just under 50 flights now and she's still flying freaking sweet.  The more I fly it with the Vertigo, the more I'm convinced that it doesn't have nearly the power that the 600MX did.  IDK, maybe I have it geared wrong?  It's an 1175 kv motor, I'm running a 13T pinion and just under 2500 rpm head speed.  Does that sound right?  I will say this, though, it does stay cool.  I did 6 back-to-back flights this morning and the motor was right around 80C after every landing.

I am not sure at what RPM the Vertigo makes it's best power but if this were a scorpion at the same KV I would run the 12t pinion.  I suggest you try that.  Are you using a castle ESC?  If so you will get a warning on the gov about having minimal overhead.  Based on the castlelink numbers you be at 105.6% with the 12t.  With a scorpion that is a good spot.  Just not sure about the Vertigo.  I try t find that out.

I'm using a Scorpion ESC, so I have no logging to see what's going on.  I guess I'll throw the 12T pinion on there and see how it goes.

That made a HUGE difference!  I just flew 6 packs with the 12t pinion at 2480 RPM and it was all kinds of powerful.

Great Rodney!  It is good to get some feedback on those motors!
Thanks

It's also still running very cool in comparison to the temperatures that I have seen posted about other motors.

With the Scorpion 4025-1100 and 4400 packs I get 4-1/2 minutes at 2350.  At 2450 it drops to around 4 minutes.
I ran mine at 2250 this weekend with no issues.  Flight time increased to a about 5-1/2 minutes.  Mostly big air stuff though. I am probably going to set my idle-1 to 2250 and idle-2 to 2400.  I am running the Jeti ESC so I basically have a fuel gauge now and set my alarm to go off at 3600ma.
