E5-S or E6/7 ???

I planning a on my 1st Synergy for some time now and want to stop planning and start building.

I want to build a 600 and I need you opinion/ advice.

It looks like I have 2 choices, E5-S or E6/7.  I own a 500 DFC now and think the next step should be a 600 12S. 90% sure at least. 

What should I do, E5-S or E6/7?  Looks like the E6/7 (at least belt drive) is phasing out and the E7se has taken its place. I see a few hobby shops offering E6/7 TT but don't know if that is just inventory.  The Synergy site is not showing E6/7 as an option.

Should I go with the E5-S or E6/7?   

Could someone point me in the right direction.

I'm sure I'll need more good advice like cyclic servo's and V-Bar or Ar7200, or MS Brain.

E5s is the way to go for a 600.

The E5 stretch does not necessarily need to be the next step from a 500DFC.  You may also want to consider the stock E5 spinning 556mm blades, which is a big jump from the 500DFC spinning 425mm blades.


Sure, the E5 stretch spins 600mm size blades on 12S, so it has a lot of power, autos nicely, and may possibly share battery packs with the 500DFC.  Yet, a persuasive argument can be made about the simplicity of using a single Lipo pack on the stock E5 spinning 550mm size blades.

I now know it will be an E5 for sure but Curmudgeon, you're right there is a persuasive argument to the E5 6S setup, and it would be a big jump from the 500. There's my 10% not sure. 

What configuration would give me the best flight times?  E5 with 6S or 12S?   

What can I expect out of the E5-S in terms of flight times?

I like smooth responsive flights, I'm not a stick banger at all at least not for a couple more years of practice.

By the way, I have been "lurking" lol on this site for a while and I have to say this is a great group of people that are extremely helpful. Hope I can contribute someday.

Flight time for either configuration will depend on pack size, headspeed and flight style.  I'm running my E5s on 10S 4400mAh at 2250rpm and I get 5 mins of aggresive 3D.  I could easily get another minute by lowering the headspeed.

My skills are in the advanced beginner range (3 in a 1-9 scale).


On the E5 (6S) spinning 556/96 blades at governed 2,406rpm with the 1:4.0 ratio, it consumes around 544mah/min with 4500mah packs, and around 560mah/min with 5000mah packs.  So, in theory, I can fly 06:37 min with the 4500mah packs or 07:09 min with the 5000mah packs before I get to 80%.  I like to keep my flights between 05:00 and 05:30 minutes, so the smaller packs work well for me.  I also find the helicopter more nimble with the 4400mah and 4500mah packs when compared to the 5000mah packs.


On the E5s (12S) spinning 606/96 blades at governed 2160rpm with the 1:4.5 ratio, it consumes around 316mah/min per pack (632mah/min for both packs) when using 3300mah packs.  I could theoretically fly for 08:21 min before hitting the 80% mark.  Again, because I like to keep my flights under 6 minutes, I may try smaller 3000mah packs in the future.

Wow that's not bad.  My flying style should get me 10 to 20 minutes LoL, just kidding.

You're right Darren, it is all about flight style and head speed. So flight time is an average.  There are some very impressive pilots on this site.  5 minutes of hard 3d would wear me out.  Am old....er   

So is it possible to run 12s 3400 mah x2 about 1030g total weight with 556 blades?

I run 3400 mah 30c @500g on my 500 now and get 7:30 to 8;00 with 2850 flat curve.   

That would ideal setup for me with either a E5 or E6 or both.  That sure would keep the battery inventory simple. Big plus
