CGY-750 governor
« on: July 08, 2013, 01:25:17 PM »
Okay, I think I've pretty much got the CGY-750 set up now but I have a couple of questions on the governor.  I think I have the concepts down but want to double-check.

My first question is under Yaw rate compensation there are four choices.  I have the gyro mounted on top but what directions are considered CW and CCW?

Here's how I am planning on setting it up, does this sound valid?

I'm going to set the  throttle curve for NORMAL to a linear curve (0-100) and use the stick switch setting to engage the throttle. If I set the stick switch to, say 40%, that will let me spool it up to 40% throttle and then the governor should kick in and go the governed RPM setting for NORMAL, right?

In the expert settings if I set the Throttle mode to Optimize I only need to set my throttle curves for IU1 and IU2 to a flat curve that's above the 40% that I have set my stick switch set to, right?

I set the RPM settings that I wanted in my transmitter.  When I looked in the CGY governor setup menu, I can see it switch between the three RPM settings but the RPM numbers do not match what I entered in my transmitter.  Is this normal?  I went ahead and just changed them in the CGY so that they would match what I really wanted but I thought I could just change them in the transmitter and the changes would be reflected in the CGY.  Is there a step, or something, that I'm missing?

Thanks,
Rodney

Yaw comp should be CW top.  Clockwise is the rotation of the main blades.

Using stick switch you should get governor at 40%. So that should work.
I do recommend your throttle curves for idle 1 and idle 2 be closer to what your flying rpm should be. If for some reason the gov cuts out you will have those curves to fall back on. I think I had mine at 85% on both when I had a CGY on the N5c.
You are correct. You must sometimes make the RPM numbers in the CGY match the radio. That is not unusual.

Cheers
Alan

Sweet!  Thanks Alan.  I think it's going to take me a few days to get the nerve up to fly it.  My confidence is pretty much shot right now.  I'll probably go through all the settings a few dozen more times...

Kevin and I were on the phone for over an hour last night.  I think we even managed to spend at least 15 minutes going through my setup.  ;)

Thank you, much, brother!  I am really looking forward to flying this thing this weekend.

You did the work... always make sure you keep you patients in check when you get a used heli. Always go through it and leave nothing to chance regardless who builds it,. unless Matt built it... ;) . it is all about familiarity with the machine your working on and repetition, you will be an expert before you know it!!!  Have fun Brother!

Well, I did have another learning opportunity today...  I'm such an idiot.  I had a set of blades that was pretty badly out of balance.  After some creative arts and crafts to balance them, I went out to fly.  As I was spooling it up, the little voice in my head was telling me that this was probably not a good idea.  Sure enough, about 30 seconds into the flight, the tape flew off with the weight and the ensuing vibration did not make the FBL controller happy, at all.

I'm going to have another chance to go back through the whole setup again, now, after I rebuild again.  :o

Just to clarify...  It wasn't as sketchy as it sounded in my last post.  I wasn't taping coins, washers, or fishing weights to my blades.  I had some heavy tape with pressure sensitive adhesive on it, used for balancing ceiling fan blades, and then I had a layer of electrical tape over that.   I may be stupid enough to cost myself a lot of money but I'm not so stupid that I'm a danger to myself.
