Help with motor choice??
« on: October 16, 2011, 10:50:53 AM »
In my E7 I was going to use the 5020-450 Scorpion but I dont like how tight the fit is.

I have a 4525-520 which is also gonna be too big I think but I do have others which are a Pyro 700-52L or a  Scorpion 4035-500

Dont really want to buy another motor as I got plenty of spares sitting here and Im thinking the Kontronik tbh but whats your thoughts as the gearing suits a 450kv better.

If I go the 52 which pinion would you recommend to get around the 2000rpm mark??

I'll be using the Pyro 700-45 + Jive ESC with a 14T pinion, flying a wide RPM range. I'll also try the 13T when it's available.

520 KV might spin too fast for the headspeed you want. The RH headspeed calculator said you need an 11T (which isn't available).

Find your pinion here:

The Hacker Tornado 470kv is a great motor, fits great and it's available at a very good price.

I would rather utilize what I have as I got 4 motors on the bench :)

I don't mind running a low tc as I do on my SE, I run 50% curve on my Kontroniks and it copes fine.

I'm flying Pyro 450 in my E7 with a 14 tooth pinion and th curve at 75% to have 2100 rpm. You might want to order a 12 or 13 tooth pinion.

The 4525 will fit fine, only the 5020 would require some minor modding depending on the pinion size you wanted to run.

Sure, the 4525LE will fit fine (I also have 1 of those sitting around), but the motor's 520 KV rating is the issue with the currently available gear ratios... That is, if one doesn't want to spin at 2200 RPM or really short flights.
