Tight auto rotation hub
« on: April 11, 2014, 01:16:01 AM »
Hello,

I am building the Synergy E5 and I have noticed that the auto-rotation hub is very tight. Even if I test it ouside of the helicopter, by just inserting the auto-rotation sleeve into the hub, I can notice its tightness. The rotation is smooth, but it takes quite a bit of effort to perform it, much more than on my other helicopters. Is this normal?

Many thanks.

Hi darkoroje,

When new the autorotation assemblies can have a little resistance but they usually bed in after a few flights, the tollerances between the sleeve and the autorotation assembly is very close.

It is advisable to use a light oil in the bearing such as triflow oil to lubricate the bearing.

Hope this helps,
Ross

It also may be necessary to lightly sand the delrin shims a bit. This is an adjustable area to accommodate tolerance variances.

Mine was like that after the re-build.
First I had tightened the jesus bolt to much, so I loosened that to barely snug.
After a few flights it is beginning to loosen up, but still has a ways to go.

Mine was tight also. I swapped out one of the Spacers for a Shim that was the right thickness.

It's also better that the part is designed to have tighter tolerances then built in slop.   Over time the auto rotation assembly will feel great, whereas a unit with slop will only get worse in my opinion.
