Tight fitting canopy
« on: April 16, 2014, 03:36:34 PM »
Finally my E5 is ready for its first flight! But I am having a problem putting on the canopy. It is a very tight fit, and it is quite hard to get both canopy clips on the left side into their slots. When I put one male canopy mount in, the other one does not quite align with its canopy mount. It takes quite a lot of stretching and fiddling to get the canopy mounted.

Are others having this problem as well? Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Darko

Did you enlarge the holes evenly?
I always check the fit and hole alignment before enlarging the canopy holes. That way if holes don't quite align you can enlarge them fore and aft as needed.
For now try enlarging the canopy holes just a tad more. Allow the grommet to almost float in the hole.  Use lubricant of choice on the pins and also the grommet itself.  I prefer a spray silicone.  Also be sure the canopy is not rubbing the frame in the front at the bottom. Sometimes that will interfer with a good fit. Trim if needed.

Cheers
Alan

A new canopy has less give to it. Give it some time and it will get easier to put on.

I agree.   The first week it was pretty tough.  But if you leave the canopy on when you aren't flying it should stretch a little and speed up the process.  Other helis I've owned in the past were even more difficult to put on.

Grease on the pins helps a lot.

Make sure you open up the canopy holes to 9mm - no more than 10mm. I think that is in the manual.  Give you a bit of fudge factor.
