Tail Rotor Links Backwards
« on: May 24, 2014, 11:55:03 PM »
So I am working on the tail box and tail rotor assembly.  When I try and put the link on the ball I notice that I am trying to force the small opening of the link over the ball.  AAARRRGGGHH! the darn things are on backwards and further examination of the links reveals that they are pined and the pin is secured with a Jesus clip.  You ask, why do I call them Jesus clips?  Well whenever I have dealt with the damn things in the past I always end up talking to Jesus and asking for His help to find it as it has departed the work are for places unknown to me.  I just know when I tackle this tomorrow morning with clear vision I am going to be on the floor Looking for at least one and maybe both.

So Matt, if you read this PLEASE bring a copious supply to the Mid-America fun fly.  I will be looking for you ;D ;D

I know just what you mean, I lost one when turning one of the pitch links over.😡 much-o frustrating-o... Somewhere else is this forum somebody addressed this issue with an excellent plan of attack, I AM SO NOT TAKING CREDIT !!!!
But, their suggestion was to work inside a gallon sized ziplock or freezer type bag. I tried it and it worked like a charm, kept the e-clip, "jesus clip" inside the bag when it inevitably flew off. I retrieved it quickly and got it on. Hope this tip helps you out and good luck on your build... P.S. Thanks to the anonymous tipster, sorry I can't give proper credit if you're reading this. 👍😃

Another tip is to magnetise your tools, I use a jewelers flat screwdriver to gently prise out and have a magnetic screw tray so I pull them over it. Then push on with a larger flat blade scre driver, again magnetised by stroking it with a speaker magnet, have nor lost one yet.

I just buy 2-3 packs of them when I buy the heli! I do that with all pins, and clips that are small and easy to lose! lol
