Auto Bearing
« on: May 21, 2014, 07:25:32 PM »
I need a New Auto Bearing.
Is this something I should attempt or should I send it to the Factory for Replacement?

Thanks.....Dave

You can replace just the bearing with the right tools. A press or bearing puller would be required. Sending the hub back to the factory is not an option. Of course ordering the hub with bearing installed is the easiest path.

Honestly its an easier replacement than most people think. You can get an arbor press for $50-100 from places like Harbor Freight or Northern Tool; its a great tool to have around. It will take you longer to get the part off the heli most times than to do the bearing replacement.

+1 Ben. I have the harbor freight press and I never leave home without it...lol..  it does come in handy. I keep and extra hub in my box with a one way installed. If I tear one up I can swap it and replace the bearing later..

Alan has a traveling tool store, it is super impressive how prepared he always is.  Probably one of the top 3 builders I know and trust.

I thought I had a good selection of tool. After seeing what Alan has I need to go shopping.  :-[

When pressing the Auto Bearing into the Hub, is there a chance in distorting the bearing?  Should I machine a tool that goes inside the bearing to maintain the inner diameter and presses on the  outer edge of the bearing?

Never needed to do that. Using a press to ensure that it goes in nice and straight works.
