servo rubber grommets

I asked this over on HF, so might be a repeat here.  I just started assembly of my E7SE and have mounted my tail servo, and that's where I came to a question.  On my E5, I used the rubber grommets and mounted my tail servo.  By doing so, it moved where the ball is on the link and I can tell that it's just off center of the tail and heli.  So my question is should I do the same for my E7SE or leave the rubber grommets out?

Same question on the cyclic servos.  On my E5, I took them out, as it pushed the alignment of the servo ball to the swash ball off (enough that I could see it, well a buddy that helped me set it up saw it and we then changed it before maiden flight).

I've looked through some pics, and it was Chris Sexton's pics I can see that he had the rubber grommets in all his servos.

Do you use the metal, round, sleeve like piece that inserts in to the rubber grommet as well?

Any pro/con's to using or not using?

I always use the rubber grommets when I can. The rjx cyclic servos are a little tight so I cant run the inserts but the grommets are there too.

I use the inserts for every installation.  I figure if it came with it it should be used. The insert adds additional isolation to the servo by allowing the screw to be fairly tight without the compressing the rubber.

I have always used them, but on my last build (E5 & RJX servos) it was extremely tight to use grommets or brass sleeves.  So, I hard mounted them on cyclic and tail.  To be honest I have not noticed any difference in flight characteristics...

Thomas (MKS distributor) recommends using the rubber grommets even for electric helis.  According to him, the main concern is with heli vibrations possibly fracturing the fragile soldered connections inside the servos over time.

It is my understanding that the brass eyelets should be inserted so that the wide end faces the helicopter frame and the narrow end faces the retaining screw.

Personally I never run the inserts. I normally use the rubber but I end up compressing it to the point that the servo is solid. On my N7 I didn't even use the rubber and it flies just fine.

I always run the rubber grommets and eyelet inserts on both my electric and nitro machines.
