Throttle Return Spring
« on: July 25, 2014, 11:26:46 AM »
Throttle return spring, good idea or a bad idea.  One of my flying buddies wants me to put a return spring on the N7. He uses one on his Trex700n and swears buy it.  I don't know if it is a necessary item or not.  Your thoughts, concerns, criticisms please.

Well I guess if your throttle servo died or the link popped you would at least kill the engine.  Not sure if that is what I would want?  Never used one and I can't see that as a necessity.

My thoughts are:
  * Link Popping.....Not likely given the low pressure exerted on it in flight.  Opening and closeing the carb does not seem very stressful to me.
  * Servo quitting, a possibility and maybe a good argument for the spring.
  * Hard landing that causes loss of signal to the Rx, Now here is my main concern.  If the throttle return were in place it might prevent a chicken dance and if someone were to be shooting a video the prevention of humiliation as your Heli is destroyed and the vid goes viral on YouTube.  😁😁

Well never had one chicken dance. Fortunately I only lost power once after a crash and throttle wasn't fully open. May have a point.  Personal choice.  I know of no one running with a return spring though.

A chicken is the best situation. considering the throttle link could go mid flight and remain wide open...then what? enjoy the flight I guess and get ready to auto 8)

I would rather have it go full throttle in flight. At least then I could fly it out of fuel and auto it down. If it chicken dances there is nothing left but to say goodbye.  :(

I don't think I am going to pursue it any further.  Seems like more trouble than it would be worth.
