Hi all, recently got a n5c and am having some trouble with the clutch/liner run out I think. It takes almost 50% throttle for it to engage and start turning the blades. And I had to run like a 100-90-100 throttle curve (no gov yet) for it to be flyable. At first I thought my throttle endpoints could of been wrong but they are set right. I then thought maybe the liner was worn so I ordered a new one and it is the same thickness as whats in there. The clutch shoes don't look pressed in or anything, there is some wear where the shoes grab but not sure if that is normal or not. Would pictures help? I'm at a loss for what could be wrong. I believe this issue caused my os55 to over rec and piston slap which busted out the side of it. Don't really want to rebuild another engine trying to figure out what was wrong. I did buy this used from my friend and his clutch was always loose to engage but nothing like this. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Definitely sounds like a worn liner or possibly bad clutch. When new they are a bit grabby but even on my 200+ flight night n5c the blades engage way before half throttle.

Yup sounds like bad clutch to me as well.

I will post a picture of my clutch in a few minutes, that is what I was thinking aswell since the liner thickness looks the same as the new one I bought. But I will probably swap that out aswell since I bought a new one. One question though the new one I bought is blue like the N7's and not black like the one that is in their now. I ordered the n5c one, is this right?

Also, I do have access to a basically new n7 clutch that just needs a OWB replaced, any chance that will work on the n5c? I didn't compare them side to side but I know they are close to the same size.

No the n7 clutch won't work in the n5c. The liner won't fair well.

How does that clutch look to you? Id like a 2nd opinion before I drop over $30 on a new one. Im very tight on cash.

Make sure the liner is not slipping inside the bell, i have seen this a few times, they did not use JB Weld. I would replace the liner, only take a few thousands. Is the clutch a dark blue from heat?

As a rule of thumb I want to be able to wrap a piece of electrical tape around my clutch 1 time without overlapping and have it fit snug into the bell housing with the clutch liner installed. To large a gap and you start having issues like your writing about. And the clutch shoes can even break.
