E5SS (700) with 12s?
« on: February 18, 2015, 11:05:55 AM »
Hi guys, new here :)

Question, Would the E5 Stretched to a 700 (696mm blades) handle a 12s power system, like say a 4035, and be able to be smacked around like a normal 700?  Or would it not be able to handle the stress of 696mm blades being beat around that fast?  I know the tail ratio would need to be increased, but other than that would it be ok with it?

Thanks :)

I've seen guys do everything and anything with a SS. It will take no worries. I think Chris even has a E5ss as a speed heli.

The E5ss is a VERY light 700. I had a 4035-500 in mine, power house! just run light packs, 4000-4400mAh packs.

Yes the bird I ran in the 2014 IRCHA Speed Cup was a modified E5ss.  I had to modify the frames heavily to fit a 14s motor.  It ran 137.8 MPH in practice consistently.  E5 head, E5 tail, slower tail ratio.  2590RPM with Rail 716 mains.  Dozens of practice passes at that RPM. No failures AT ALL.

I run a 696 E5ss but I do not really smack it around. I watched Rob Cherry beat his repetitively with no issues. I know he made a few changes. I think he would be a good resource. Incidentally I have a little over 1050 minutes on my E5ss with no issues. I run mine @ 1850 when I run 10s and t's still solid after all those flights.

Wow, that's awesome news guys.  Pretty impressive that it can handle that... isn't it a 550? :P

I'm thinking about eventually replacing my 700 with an E5SS or E7SE.   (of course, that will be AFTER I get my current 700 in the air... who knows when that will be...)

Which would you recommend, E5SS or E7SE?  I have the powerhouse KDE 700XF and it's 56mm diameter.... is it possible for me to fit it in there, because I really don't want to sell it lol.  I love that motor so much.  With that said, would I be better off with a E7SE?

I would do the e7se. No mods needed and it smacks with the best of them  ;)

im with Chris. if your flying smack, and still crash a good bit, get the E7SE. the E5SS with the mods needed to fly that KDE motor can cause some extra damage in a crash. the E7SE is a beast too!
