BEC connection

Need help figuring out how to connect a 2S Lipo to the BEC. The BEC comes with one standard Futaba style plug, which I assume goes into the receiver, and the other cable has no ends (bare wire).

The 2S Lipo has one standard charging connector (not sure what its called) and one JST connector. Not knowing any better, I looked for a female version of the JST, but couldn't find one.

Do I have to cut off the JST and replace with some other male/female connector or are there female JST connectors out there?

You are correct, the Servo style plug goes into the FBL unit or RX.  The other end with no wires is so you can choose which ever connection you prefer.  I like using Deans "T" style plugs on my BECs or EC3s. Both are small and won't add bulk to the setup.   As for the battery, the JST plug is the balance lead. You have to have that. That plugs into the balance port on your charger so it can make sure each cell in the 2 cell pack is charged equally.  THe other connector is probably a Deans, see my picture below.  Either way, the easiest thing to do would be to order the matching connector for the BEC so you don't have ot tamper with the battery leads.




That is my BEC on my 766. Now mine is plugged into my flight pack, but the orange/red connector on the left is a Deans "t" style.

One more question, what BEC are you running? Most have two leads to the FBL/RX to load balance.

I haven't bought it yet. Still deciding on which servos, Lipo, and BEC. Trying to balance price and quality. Have any suggestions?

I've used about all of them. Hard to beat the value of straight rx power and HV servos.

Choose the servos first. Then bec. Just my recommendation.

Ok. Thanks. Do most BEC connect to both the FBL and RX. I thought they just went between battery and RX to regulate the power to servos, RX and FBL. This is my first FBL.
BTW, I really appreciate all your advice. Are you ever in upstate NY. If so, would love to meet you and give you a tour of the Base. You could fly our Apache Simulater snd climb inside an aircraft on the ramp.

There are BECs and regulators. Some of the good regulators run in between the FBL unit and the servos. The battery plugs into them. They relay the signal front the FBL to the servos while providing power to both servos and the FBL unit.  This is very nice for more power hungry servos. And some FBL units don't have a strong enough power bus. So this is a good option. They are referred to as regulators because in most cases you can choose different voltage outputs to the servos than you send to the FBL and or tail/throttle servos.

Example; if your cyclic servos are HV and like straight 8.0v. But Your throttle servo doesn't like HV. Most regulators will let you send HV voltage to the cyclics while only sending 6v to the FBL unit and thus the throttle/rudder servos.

This is also a very nice option if you are looking for a system that offers a power switch.  Many regulators offer on/off switches and some even offer glo drivers for the nitros.

BECs generally, not always, just connect directly to the FBL and or RX and the battery plugs into it. Or on an electric you can tap into one of the flight packs (see my picture above) and not need an RX battery.

There is no real wrong answer. You have to get what fits your need.

I think it's starting to sink in. But I think I will need it in front of me so I can put my hands on it to really get it. I may be gone this weekend, so may have to connect with you during the week or next weekend. My NC5 should arrive on Mon. I'm really excited to get started on that. Will most likely have more questions as I work thru that. But thanks for offering to help me over the phone. Will shoot you a message this weekend if I don't end up leaving.

If you do make it out here I can put you in all three sims (Apache/Blackhawk/Chinook).
