New boom fitted pushed in too far ?

Just fitted new boom to my E7 and been so long since I worked on it I forgot about the torque tube instructions saying--- when fitting boom to not push it al the way up against the gearbox as it will cause improper mesh of bevel gears.
I have already drilled and pined the boom in this position, is it really an issue ?   It seems to all spin smoothly but if I need to re-drill and move it I will  ???

If it's spinning smoothly you should be ok. What happens when you push it in too far is that the transmission will deflect slightly and or the mushroom gear will push forward and the mesh with the front gears will get notchy.

If it's pushed in too far, depending on circumstances, it can cause enough pressure on the front transmission to actually melt the mushroom gear.  If you feel that it's too far forward you could always slot that hole in the boom with a needle file to give you some adjustment.

Alternatively, just give the boom a twist and drill another hole!

I always make my "pin" hole too large to allow for adjustment on either end. the pin hole is not to support the boom, but to prevent it from sliding out if a clamp bolt fails, or you forget to tighten them. meaning, it doesn't have to be perfect. it only needs to be through the boom, and not allow it to slide out if there is a failure.

do as others above have mentioned, and elongate your hole, or twist the boom and go at it again.

Very good info guys.
I will lengthen the hole to give a small amount of movement.  That does sound like the easiest method at this stage.

Now I'm trying to decide if I should change the head block etc up to SE spec or just fly it as is till maybe next time I need parts and perhaps do it then.

I personally would stick with what you have until you crash and need to replace it. that is my inner "cheap self" coming out though. lol the new head does fly awesome!
