clutch to clutch bell clearance.
« on: April 23, 2017, 04:32:50 AM »
Hi Guys

I am just working through the engine install of my synergy N7.
With the engine washer installed between the fan hub and the engine. The top of the clutch has very little clearance with the clutch bell, possibly touching, hard to tell because the liner is new so that might be the binding im feeling. Is this common? A quick search of the problem didn't reveal many people having a similar issue so I'm not ruling out that its just me being the chimp with the spanners  ;D  but I cant see where I've went wrong.

Can this be adjusted with a thinner washer between the engine and fan hub? It does say in the manual that the engine washer must be in there for appropriate spacing, but a thinner washer would drop the fan hub and clutch for a little more clearance with the bell?

For info the engine is a ys91srs and its an xl cluctch

Thanks in advance

Check to be sure the hub is actually down tight on the washer. If you can move the washer with a pick then the hub isn't seated right.

Also what engine is this?

Hi Guys

The engine is a ys91srs.
I tried to make sure the the hub was seated as best as possible. I made sure the was no freeplay in the hub after tightening the cranknut but before tightening the fan hub pinch bolts and it seems ok chris.

I also  tried an align 91 engine I had lying around and the clearance issue is there with that engine too.

Thanks

Mike

YS engines are longer by a small amount. Every YS engine I've installed in an n7 has had the same thing. The best thing to do is to find a thinner washer. Yes you can also file the frame a bit to raise the bell but I don't really like to do that. You should have a washer between the hub and engine but it doesn't need to be thick.

Thanks for that
I've located a shim washer of the same size but half the thickness of the ys thrust washer and it's looking a lot better.
On with the build

Cheers
