having an issue with my cgy750
« on: March 22, 2018, 07:52:30 PM »
i have a 516 , which flies really nicely , i originally had a mini vbar on it  , but wanted to retry a cgy750 as i like the way they flew.  so i started with tuning the flip and roll rate (11 degrees pitch 8 degrees cyclic ) max flip is 268 and roll is 314, does this sound right as it feels a little slow , oh and its running stock gearing with the x nova motor. next i went to pitch pumps , which went well until about the third one  when the tail dropped 45 degrees near the top. i tried it again and it goes up straight for about 75 feet then the tail drops as if i have given  full back elevator, it seems to be something with full collective , because i had it happen while tuning the tail and flying sideways across the field , once i hit full collective the tail drops.
next day and its flying fine full collective climb outs for about 250 feet and it goes up straight , im a little confused and just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this ,
should i just redo my setup just to be sure?

Mine is set to 350/sec in flight tuning and tail is at 550 on rudder advanced.

My sws is at 9 degrees and collective about 12-12.5.

Where are your gains?

The thing about cgy is the default parameters are pretty damn close.  I basically set servo centers, directions, pitches and fly. Cyclic starts at 70 on gain and rudder 60.

Just to be clear we are talking apples to apples:

1: are you running the 2.0 firmware?
2: if you are, are you saying you can't get your flight tuning setting for cyclic rotation rate above 283?

yes v2.0 and i have my flip rate set to 265 ,268 was the max i could get with about 12 degrees of cyclic , its back to 8 now and is still 265 , but if i fly around the max flip rate is in the 280's

so i have completely redone my setup , i changed from 13mm servo ball distance to 17( my only option right now)38 % in the pitch menu for 12.5 degrees and 50% in the cyclic menu for 9 degrees aileron . i have levelled everything with the swash detail menu , all that is left to do is to try it.
what servo horns would you recommend?
is it possible that i ran out of elevator movement which caused the tail to drop?

so i had a quick flight today just to check that things were ok , no tuning, just flips and rolls ,  max achieved was 270 which is slightly better than before , i did try pitch pumps and no issue, tail did drop a slight bit but i believe that's a tuning thing , feed forward i think .
flip and roll rate were pretty much the same ,270 degrees per second , but i will wait for some new servo horns before i try anymore tuning.
i know that you said that you set your roll rate to 350 degrees p/s Chris but are you achieving that in flight , just want to know if i need to look further into my setup

well after some thought , i reflashed the cgy with v2 (again) just to be sure it was good , 9 degrees cyclic and 12 degrees pitch(50 and 38 in the cgy) Mikado 16-20mm servo horns , and set out this morning to see if it was any better . first set of flips and it topped out at 245 degrees /s . so i thought i would just up the rate in the condition menu to 350 as that's what everyone seems to be running, flew again and this time it went up to 255 degrees /s. not encouraging and still felt slow , so then i thought let me see if going higher makes a difference and i went to 400 d/s and this time it felt much faster and the flip rate was 298 d/s, then i tried 450 in the cgy and it went to 310 d/s .
so my conclusion is that the cgy is out of calibration, i think i need to send it in and have it checked , is this something that anyone else has experienced and do you think its possible to re calibrate it?
