N7 starter just spins, help

I hit the starter and the starter just spins and then I let off and try again and it catches and again just spins and then may catch again,I replaced the one way bearing  in the clutch but it had no effect what else could it be?

maybe the grubs screws on the hex adapter are loose?

No all tight,the only other thing is the starter shaft ir self do those ware,it is like the shaft is spinning and then the one way catches and the motor turns and then spins again ,I can keep trying and I can get the motor started but it is frustrating

Have you verified that the crankshaft nut is tight? I have had one back off before. Just a thought.
