N5c Belt Tension
« on: May 10, 2012, 08:19:01 PM »
So, I've read about not having too much belt tension, but how much is needed? With very little tension if any, it seems fine, but if I put enough to make it seem fine, it feels like the teeth are rubbing, is it that sensitive? I keep thinking I've got it twisted up wrong, but I've twisted the tail back and forth and I don't think I do. Its my first Synergy. Aaron Johnson said he'd check it out in a week when we get together at a fun fly,but I wanted to get the motor broke in by then!

Sonny,

With your Heli fully fueled and ready to fly, Set it on the table with the tail box facing you.  The cross brace at the very Bottom, Take it off and leave it off. The tail box is plenty rigid enough you don't need it. With that removed take your finger and place it underneath pressing up on the belt. Nestle your finger between the Boom and the Pulley. You are looking for 2mm deflection. That is the correct tension. If you have to make adjustments, Make them at the Tail Box end, (NOT THE FRAME END),   Also make sure you spray the belt, CRC Spray Silicon.   Wallah your ready to go flying!! ;)  if you have a question, PM me with your Number and I will be glad to explain via phone..

Yeah, I thought i might have a twisted belt and i think i must have, but I am at my wits end, having this heli together then apart again because the frames were wrong. I guess i just need to calm down and try it again. I've twisted the tail section one way, then the other and wasn't gaining any ground, but when there is hardly any tension its pretty smooth, but not right, so i get close but then turn it the wrong way evidently!

Make sure the rear idler bolt at the tail box is not over tightened, it's a common mistake to over tighten this bolt which will lock up the bearings.

Thanks,

Matt
