No grease on OWB--page 26 of manual
« on: November 25, 2012, 10:14:22 PM »
The E5 manual states on page 26 to not use grease on the OWB; only use light oil such as TriFlow.

I was under the impression that OWB needed to be heavily greased.  At least that seems to be the case with the Taiwan made helis.  What is the detriment of using grease on the OWB?

I don't like grease in the own for 2 reasons.
#1. It's thick, it does break down with friction though but in my experience it "increases" the friction. and when it breaks down it turns acidic.
#2. It collects dust/dirt/grime and holds it locked up in the grease particles.

A light oil with additives that keep the polymers suspended. Such as a Teflon based oil are many times slicker and a much lower viscosity than grease. Even teflon grease.
Also I use plain ole transmission fluid in mine. Just get a lot in there and make sure it's all coated.
However, I have used all 3 in mine but ur best bet is lite oil ortranny fluid.
Mine has tranny fluid in it. Which I like best. So for my lube of choir is ATF.

+1 Jabird... absolutely correct.

In addition, when grease is used in colder temps I've seen the needles get sticky and prohibit proper function.

Light oil has worked for over a decade in the helicopters I have owned. Grease has only caused problems.
