Had my first forced auto Saturday
« on: September 17, 2012, 02:43:18 AM »
I was working on the tune of the OS-55 hzr in my synergy n5c on Saturday. It was running a little off and I was doing tail down tic-tocs (at least my version) to try and get the mid range better and it started to bog a little. I kept going and sure enough it stalled. Luckily I was about 50 feet up, I almost went full positive right away but remembered about the head speed. Went to a little negative and flared just before the ground and set it down right in the middle of the field. Walked over and picked it up and all was ok didn't even tip over. Glad I didn't over think like I usually do. I know it's not a huge deal to auto for most guys but for me it was pretty cool.

Now I see why some guys every flight with an auto. I always do mini autos but now may practice from higher up.

Congrats on your successful auto.
I am in the same boat. Finishing up a new N5c this week so I better start thinking about it. I did have one forced auto earlier this year on an N5. That one went well.  Fortunately I do at least practice them on the sim.

Cheers

I always end my flights with at least one auto. With nitro it is pretty safe because one can always disable throttle hold and try again. It is good practice for real situation and also lots of fun. Lately i've been practicing half piroflip autos starting inverted.

Anyways, those forced auto situations occur usually pretty fast and even though i've practiced them quite a bit i still congratulate my self after successful forced auto.  =)

So, congrats mate on your auto. It feels good when succeeding in those. :)

Cheers,
Mikko

Awesome save Rocky and Great Advice Mikko, I can't stress enough on how important it is to Practice ORIENTATION! You never know what attitude of situation you will find yourself in if and When something happens "AND IT WILL" These Synergy Helis are built tougher than a Brick Sh-t house but parts will fail and Motors will quit. The guys who practice Orientation will prevail. (Example) if your inverted and you loose an engine, Quick aileron roll and you tend to bleed off less head speed than you would if you pushed forward or pulled back on the Cyclic to flip the heli back, Chances are you would incorporate collective in that move as well resulting in Two inputs as opposed to one..  There's nothing like pulling off a save like you did Rocky! Awesome Job, conditioning yourself for the unexpected and that portion of your flight will result in less parts ordered..  I almost bit it big time this weekend, 2 years ago I would have crashed. I reacted with the right input and didn't ball up my 6.
