Servo Set-up Tips
« on: January 02, 2013, 06:29:05 PM »
I have a question to ask, but because I keep opening new threads I would like others to post there tips for future readers.  But first my question.

I tried to get my CC120 and BEC soldered today but the LHS could not get it in the PRC6 connector.  He was just having a really bad day and after an hour and a half, I didn't want to take a chance on him screwing something up.  I still want to set my servos to center and program my Vbar tonight or tomorrow morning though.  Here is my idea:
I have an esc from a 400 that isn't being used and a 3S battery that plugs into it.  Just for set up purposes, would it be ok to plug that into Vbar so I can get things setup?  I will not plug the motor in, just the speed controller into Vbar and the servos and AR8000.  But I wanted to check before I did something bad.  Hope to hear YES, but if there will be problems let me know.
Oh yeah, I am using the BLS255/256 combo.

As long as the out put voltage from the on board BEC is at or below 2S the Vbar will be fine.  You could use a NiCD or Life battery to accomplish the same thing.  One other caution with the Vbar, make sure that your sensor it plugged in correctly if you reverse the polarity it's finished.

Also, how would I plug it in with a NiCd?  Oh well, don't have one I was thinking about one of my car packs but that is NiMh

Hmmm, I think you mean the Vbar sensor, guess I thought you meant a telemtry sensor or something.  So just make sure I have positive to positive and negative to negative.  Or do you mean the servo type plugs that go into the vbar?  Just making sure so I don't destroy something.  Glad I'm asking.

Ok, we are on the same page now.  Since you are using the V-Bar Mini you don't have and external (gyro) sensor (the one to which I was referring).

Wait a minute - I'm a bit of a Johnny-come-lately here, but are you planning on using an AR8000?  You only need a couple of remote receivers instead - that'll clean up a rats best of wires for ya.

Yeah I know, but I have this receiver sitting around and want to use it so I can have it in a bird.  I have used Sats before, but going to use the receiver this time.  Also like the telemetry I have with it.

The Vbar wouldn't get power from the crappo walkera esc.  I'm sure the wire they had was mislabeled or not the right one. I've never used if before.

Just thought of it, should have hooked the esc to the receiver first, then to Vbar.  I'll try in the morning.

Sounds good.  My wife needs to hurry up and get ready so I can take her to get her car and then I can get on the road.
