Scorpion HKIII-4025-1100KV Motor (Mounting Bolts)
« on: January 21, 2013, 10:25:06 AM »
Page 29 of the manual depicts using the 100-312 M3X12 Socket head screws (included in E5 Kit) which provides for 12MM of thread length.  The screws provided with the Scorpion motor have roughly 9.5MM of thread length.  I trial fitted the (Kit) screws, yet they seemed to bottom out.  I did not apply much force as I wanted to prevent any damage.  The screws provided with the motor seem to work fine.

Has this been everyone’s experience as well?

The length of the motor anchoring screws is motor dependent.  The screws need to be long enough to clear the thickness of the motor mount and motor base, and maybe 1-2 mm into the motor itself.  If the screws are too long, you risk a short circuit from the screw coming into contact with the motor internal wires.  The motor screws supplied with the kit may be too long for some motors.

For mine I used the screws that came with the Scorpion motor and left it at that.

The KDE motor needs shorter screws (10mm?).

For mounting the KDE-600XF motor (1175Kv or 530Kv), the M4x8mm and M3x8mm mounting screws are bit too short, and do not insert all the way through the motor base.  The M3x10mm and M4x10mm screws are a bit long, and will deform the motor plastic protector a bit, especially the M3 screws as they insert closer to the pinion than the M4 screws.  I ultimately used the 10mm long screws.  It may possibly help to reduce the screws closer to 9mm long.

This is a link to a picture of how the 10mm long screws deform the KDE motor plastic protector http://www.helifreak.com/album.php?albumid=10214&pictureid=82605.

I used the Scorpion motor bolts as well.  No matter which bolts you use make use that they do not contact the windings.  I have seen this happen more than once.
