So, it's a beautiful day out and I head out to fly my E7 and N5c.  I have a couple of friends with me who recently started flying and they bring their 300X's. 

I'm on my third tank of fuel for the N5c and as I'm making a level pass after coming out of a big loop I say to my buddy, "Man, this thing is really running good.  I am really starting to like flying this helicopter, a lot!"  As soon as "lot" comes out of my mouth, one of the main blades goes to about 90 degrees pitch and all hell breaks loose.  I hit throttle hold and I end up having a fairly light crash in a mint field.  It looks like all that broke was the landing skids.  I was absolutely sure that I had put red loctite on all of the swash plate balls but one of the ones that's connected to one of the blade grips ended up working its way out.  Oh well, could have been much worse.  That's the last time I compliment one of my helicopters...

Hate to Hear of a bird going in. I have had that misfortune happen as well, only now I make dame sure everything is degreased and then Loctite applied and given ample time to dry. I will say these Helis can take quite a bit of abuse and Keep on going!! God knows I have put mine through it. Hell I went through a Tree and flew out the other end !!

Man. Looks like the past week was tough on us all. I put the E7 in last weekend at Cincy. It's back up now but dinged the N5C on Thursday. It happens. I had a good run.  No crashes in over 6 months. Just hope they don't come in threes:-)
I won't mention any names but I have seen and heard of some other epic crashes lately. Hey, it's flying season!

Hopefully I won't have to report back here with a crash. Just got the brand new Bavarian Demon 3SX installed and preprogrammed on my N5c and I'm going to maiden it today. Fingers crossed.

Brandon. Glad to hear that went well. I was about to text you and ask. The E5 is not behaving with the most recent firmware. I restored it back to V .117. Will fly it tomorrow and see. Matt flew it yesterday and agreed I was having issues.

Well I was downed by the most infamous of anti-hobby time problems this weekend... The dreaded "honey do list" :(. Haven't flown in days! Might be mid America before I get a flight in!

Glad the HC is working well Brandon, Rodney sorry to hear you had issues again my friend.

Thanks Chris.  Wouldn't be quite as bad but I'm chasing problems in my E7, as well.  Last week my FBL controller browned out three times.  I got lucky twice but the third time, it happened as I was landing and the heli just kind of dropped out of the air from about 15 feet.  Destroyed a brand new set of Rail 716 mains and a set of Rail tail blades, too.  It also started making this hollow buzzing sound at all rpm ranges.

After emailing back and forth with Skookum, I thought the brown outs might be caused by the wiring between the flight pack and the FBL controller.  I bought some new 3" servo extension cables with the largest diameter wire I could find.  I also replaced all three main shaft bearings, as well as the main shaft.  First flight out was good (except it's still making the noise).  On the second flight it browned out again on landing.  Luckily, I was only about a foot off of the ground.  I replaced that controller with the SK540 from my E5.  A couple flights yesterday went well (except the noise that still persists).  On flight number four, the motor momentarily shut down.  I was able to land okay and this time, the LED on the SK540 was still green, so no brown out.  I looked at the log file from the CC ESC and it never saw over 100 amps on any of those flights.  I thought maybe I had hit over current.  Anyway, I went ahead and swapped out the ESC with the 130A Scorpion commander I have and I tried again today.  I still don't know what to think after the last flight.  It seemed like I hit LVC at some point.

I just pulled the motor apart and the dust cover retaining clip on one of the bearings popped out.  That's the same little clip that destroyed my Hacker motor. grrrrr.  Anyway, by some miracle, I had the right size bearing to swap out so I have re-assembled the motor and I'm going to go give it another try later (if the thunder storms pass by).

So, yeah, awesome weekend so far.  I also ended up having to order new blades for the N5C because one of them got cracked pretty bad in the crash, after all.
