Source for hardened steel bolts?
« on: June 18, 2013, 11:29:10 AM »
I'm interested in purchasing a bulk set of common bolt types, sizes, etc. just to have on hand for my E7, E5, N5c, etc.  I'm tired of fishing through my tool box, scrounging around trying to find the right bolt when I need a replacement or extra. It would be nice just to have an inventory of several of each in a nice organizer box. I noticed that the kits that RCScrewz sells are stainless steel, but Matt warns against using SS for certain applications (particularly pinching, like head bolts, fan shroud collar, etc). Is there any place out there that sells similar kits with hardened steel bolts? I'd rather buy a bulk kit than buy individual bolts from an AD because that would be too pricey.

I have an assortment of 12.9 grade hardware.  M2 to M5, button heads, cap heads, some flat heads, regular nuts, Nylock nuts, washers, etc.  I am aware of McMasters.  However, my current preference for hardware are the ProTek brand stuff from A Main Hobbies.

I use http://www.microfasteners.com for bulk screws.  I have used them for many years.  They have awesome servo screws for plank use!
For heli's I have used both their button head and socket head screws with no issues.

Cheers
Alan
