CGY-750 swash reaction
« on: July 24, 2013, 07:59:21 PM »
I am setting up my second CGY-750.  When I tilt the helicopter to check that the FBL controller is moving the swash in the correct direction to correct for the tilt, I cannot get it to react for both elevator and aileron.  I can get it to do one, or the other, but not both.  I'm using the R6303SB and I have it set for channel group 7.  I have checked the SBUS settings in the CGY-750 and they are all at default.  I checked my channel assignments in the 14SG and I set them exactly the same as I did for my N5c (which works).  I'm pretty sure it's a channel mapping deal but I'm at the point where I'm just going around in circles now.  Anyone else ever seen this before?

Thanks,
Rodney

Rodney. First get the swash working in the correct direction on all servos for collective. Don't worry about ail and ele yet.
Then go into ail gyro basic and Ele gyro basic to change those if needed.
If your radio moves them the wrong way at that point then change the throw in the radio.

Cheers

I have everything moving in the correct direction, including all of the gyro directions so that the CGY-750 is compensating in the correct directions.  The problem is that if I let it boot up and then tilt the helicopter, only the elevator moves when I tilt the nose up or down.  If I tilt the heli side to side, there is no aileron compensation.  When I was changing some of the channel assignments, earlier, I could get the aileron to correct but then the elevator would not.  It's either one or the other, I can't get both to work at the same time, which they must.

I went through and copied all of my channel assignments from my N5C setup and verified that all of the SBUS channels are set to their defaults (like they are on my other one) and I'm still getting the issue.  At first, I had my receiver set up for Channel Group 1, so I figured that was it.  Nope, it still does it when it's set to Group 7.

Sounds like the gain on aileron is set to Zero.
Look at the display and see what gain settings the unit is seeing. Verify the channel assignments in the radio and sbus menu in the unit. Check your gyro menu in the radio and see what that indicates.
I can talk to you tonight if needed.

Cheers
Alan

yea i was going to mention that too, check in the (i think) the function menu (futaba) and see if you set ch9 and 10  to gyro ail and elev. otherwise to see it work set the gains high over 60-70 to see it move.  Or maybe it didnt initialize correctly...just some thoughts.

After doing some more searching, and reading, I'm going to try setting the Aileron and Elevator gains to the same SBUS channel in the CGY-750 and see if that does it.  Dr. Ben said that's how he and Nick Maxwell set theirs up.  If nothing else, it should let me know right away if there's something else going on.

Finally figured it out.  In my gyro menu I had aileron set to Normal for TH.  When I powered everything up tonight, it worked fine until I hit TH and that's when I finally checked all of the flight mode conditions for the gyro gains. DOH!  Oh well, I guess I can quit beating my head against the wall now.

There are just so many more programming options on the 14SG than what I had with the DX8.  I'm slowly getting there.

Its tough transistioning from Spektrum, but so worth it. The flexibility of futaba is bar-none the best.  I just set up a guys DX8 on a heli and the switch assignment can be difficult when certain channels are dedicated to certain functions.

I've finally gotten a pretty good handle on the programming and I'm really really liking it now.

I ran into a switch assignment issue on my DX-8 when I was setting up my Switchglo pro in concert with my SK540. I was finally able to do what I wanted but with the 14SG it's just so dang simple to assign the channel I want to the switch I want and badda-bing badda-boom, it works.
