E5 6s 5000packs 12T or 13T?
« on: August 04, 2013, 07:53:44 AM »
hi im trying to find the pinion for my E5

i started with the 12T but when trying to hit 2350 - 2400rpm with the CC 120 esc there isnt any head room. so today ive switched to 13T to see if could keep the head at a more consistent speed. but for some reason now my esc is peaking at 90C temp  :o

so slower head (12t) or hotter esc (13t)???

or is there another reason why its getting so hot?

With a scorpion motor you want to beat around 105-108% as indicated by clicking the info box for the headspeed you are looking at.  What motor and what KV?
This seems to give you the best efficiency using a scorpion and will result in lower temps.

im running the usual 6s setup,  scorpion 4025 1100/CC120/CC bec pro2

im using 100% linear curve in my dx7s

and caslte setup is with gov (set rpm) at
1950rpm = 30%
2350rpm = 100%

i also have the gov gain at 17...is this to low?

Hi Alan,

I am also interest in this question. I am planing to setup as 6s to 5000mAh battery, with HKIII4025-1100 motor. So should I go for the 12t or 13t pinion?

Many thanks

I'm running an 1175kv Vertigo motor and I'm running the 12T at 2450RPM head speed.  When I was running the 13T it was bogging excessively. With the 12T it's a rocket.

Running the 12 tooth here on 6S with a 2200 governed head speed on the Scorpion 4025-1100kv. No issues here. Yes the Castle data for the ESC says it exceeds limits but remember the castle program is going based on a battery voltage of 22.2. If you bump it to 25.2 in the program (only for viewing, not saving it permanently) it would say it's within range and you usually stay above nominal if you're treating your batteries well during flight.

Depends on your target head speed. I run 2350 normally and use the 13t pinion. I run 4400 packs and get 4-1/2 minutes. If you run lower as Brandon indicated you could drop to the 12t pinion.
You want you highest headspeed to get into the minimum overhead range with the castle ESC. Around 105% as the info box indicates. That will be your most efficient headspeed.

Cheers

I'll also add my packs are 4400 as well and I'm getting 5 minutes. When I land I still have usually 25 to 27 percent left in the pack putting it right at the 80/20 rule.

I did 4 minutes on my 4400 pack and realized I had plenty left.  Maybe I will start doing 5 minute flights with those.  I usually land around 4 to 4 1/2 minutes so it doesn't take as long to charge.
