E7se Bearing Removal in Tail Hub Assembly
« on: August 27, 2013, 01:07:38 PM »
I was trying to remove the bearings in the tail hub assembly and ended up damaging the thrust bearing and shim.  One of the balls fell out  anf the shim is all bent out of shape.

I tried heating it with a heat gun on high but it didn't seem to make any difference.

I know it's an old issue, but what works the best for most people?

I have always just held the grip with a pair of padded pliers then used my heat gun. About 20 seconds on high and a quick tap on a hard surface they fall right out.

Sorry to hear yours didn't come out as planned.

Put the assembly in the freezer for 20-30 minutes.  If they don't come out easily then gently heat the grips but not so long as to heat up the bearings.

Cheers

Thank you, will try that the next time.  Now waiting for new thrust bearings and shims.

Should get a maiden flight this fall sometime...

All part of the fun ;)
