How to insert and remove E rings (part 506-920)?

I am trying to figure out how to remove and/or insert the 506-920 e-rings on the tail pitch link pins (606-921).  I understand that there are E-Clip tools, but I've never seen how to use one of these tools.

I use the tip of an Exacto knife to remove them an a fine tipped needle nose plier to put them back on. A good set of eyes helps. Keep spares handy :-)
