Synergy E5 build. What is best choice for ESC.
« on: October 29, 2013, 06:10:30 PM »
I am planning on an E5 build:

Scorpion HKIII 4025-1100
6s lipo
AR7200BX
Savox SC1267SG cyclic
Savox SB2272MG TAIL
Rail 556/96 main/ tail
2s rx battery

I'm looking at the Castle Edge speed controllers.  I have no plans of stretching this or changing to a 12s setup.  What is the better ESV:  120HV or the 130?

Thanks,
Steve

I used the Castle Edge 130 on my E5 initially.  Works great! You will still need to use a BEC or the 2S lipo.  The BEC on the 130 just isn't enough.

Using Jeti's now.  I have an Edge 130 for sale.  If interested PM me.

Cheers

Either ESC should be sufficient for this high current low voltage (6S) setup.  I don't know if the EDGE 100A would be sufficient.

The 120HV is a little more expensive than the 130A.  However, the 120HV is more versatile than the 130A.  The 120HV would give you the option of trying a 12S setup.  The 130A commits you to 8S or less.  I believe the 120HV may also be easier to sell in the future.

The 100A will work.  Depends on your flying style.  If big and and very little 3D you would be okay.  120 or 130 would be better choice for sure.

I am just past the learning to hover stage.  I know that is a lot of heli for me at my stage but it will make my current one more disposable and hopefully progress better.  I would rather err on the side of caution so a 120 amp would be the minimum that I would use.

I'm using a YEP 120HV (YGE clone).  It's easy to configure with the prog card.

Steve, you may learn pretty fast.  In February, I did not know what a swash plate was.  Now I can fly lazy circles upside down.  I'm not trying to brag, because I still suck as a pilot as far as I am concerned.  My point is that I can heat up my Castle 120HV in no time, and I'm just a little baby pilot, so I would have to suggest that you err on the side of performance.
