buddy boxing help needed.
« on: February 03, 2014, 08:09:25 PM »
Guys my friend and I buddied often this summer, him with his Futaba 8FG and me with my Futaba 14SG. Have not done it in a while, but now this past week-end we wanted to do it again, and now when he switches (he is teacher 8fg) controls to me (student 14sg) without any input on  my part, or his the swash tilts backwards.
Why?
We tried with his E7 using Futaba CGY750 and with his N5 using V-Bar, same thing happens on either.
Then we tried using another friend's 8fg to my 14sg on his Trex 500 (naza FBL) and no problems.

Thanks for your help.

Two weeks ago I had a similar issue. Turns out the elevator stick on my 8fgs was not centering any more.  The pin inside had cracked the plastic.  Make sure all his controls on the remote are centering.

FBL drift caused by the two radios having slightly different centers.  The two radios must have identical centers or the FBL unit will think you are giving it an input.  It's good to see more people taking on the challenge of doing heli training with a Buddy Box but this is just one of the complications you run into on FBL helis.  It's well worth dealing with it.  See if Futaba lets you calibrate your sticks.

On my Spektrum radios I just go to the monitor page and set the sticks at zero and use sub trim and end points to get to the point where the individual channel monitors show no movement when you transfer control.  Check it in the center and at all control throw extremities.  Once you get that perfect you can power up the heli on the bench and ensure that the swash plate doesn't drift when you transfer control. I was told by a Spektrum rep the other day that new radios will have their sticks calibrated to a standard so this should be less problematic in the future.

I had this issue when I took Todd Benett's class awhile back.  He was yelling at me each time he gave me control "STOP ROLLING!"  I'd yell back "I'M NOT DOING IT HONEST!"  ;D
Trying in vain not to anger the gods of vertical flight!
