New N7 - governor sensor question
« on: April 27, 2014, 06:25:08 PM »
I just became the very lucky recipient of a complete N7 package that includes a Futaba CGY750 FBL and OS 105HZ-R engine.  I've just recently re-entered the hobby after being away from it for several years, so I'm a bit overwhelmed (and pretty darn excited, as well!) over the build I have ahead of me!

(a LOT has changed since I last flew a Kalt Enforcer ZR 30!!!  :o)

Concerning the governor sensor ~
The CGY750 set I received does not include an RPM sensor, and the instruction manual that comes with the 750 is somewhat vague concerning what is really needed. So, with that in mind, what exactly do I need to order (which sensor, hardware, etc.) to add governor capability with the N7 equipped with the OS 105HZ-R?

Thanks in advance -
I'll probably have a lot more questions as this build progresses!!

BPS-1 backplate sensor which silicones into the backplate. Or the GV-1 is the magnet sensor that mounts nicely on the n7 to the clutch stack. I have used both, and both work terrific. As far as hardware, I believe both units will come with the needed hardware. If you go with the bps-1 I recommend Permatex clear rtv silicone, to mount sensor to engine backplate. My N7 has this exact setup and flys terrific clocked over 100 flights since I got it.

I have mine set up exactly the same way, with the backplate sensor, and it works great.  I think I have a couple of spare magnetic sensors that came with two of my CGY-750s and I didn't use them.  If you want to go that route, let me know and I can send you one.

Thanks guys - appreciate your feedback!

I'll probably have many more "newbie" questions as the build progresses!

I bought the Spektrum backplate sensor and the Align sensor.  I am going to try the Spektrum method first.  I sure hope that is the right choice as I don't like the thought of messing with the magnets of the Align system although I know it does work well.  The majority of the Trex 700n guys I fly with use the Align and it works great for them.
