Heavy duty servo horns
« on: June 12, 2014, 08:59:28 AM »
I just wanted to post my experience with the Du-Bro heavy duty servo horns.  I was running these on my E5 because the last time I was in need of some servo horns, these were the only ones that the LHS had that would fit my JR servos.  Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I crashed my E5 pretty hard.  I started putting it back together last night and found out that two of my DS8717's are toast.  One doesn't do anything at all and the other hums real loud and heats up.  I checked all the gears and they move smoothly.  None of the servo horns were stripped out.  It appears that they were strong enough that they survived but the servos didn't.  Needless to say, I won't be using these again.

Hey Rodney,

Sorry to hear your servos didn't survive, that is a rough one on top of the motor and pipe.

I have used these same horns on a couple of E7s over the last 2 years and have had good luck.  I put my E7 into a tree under power and all three of the horns broke and my servos, JR 8917s oddly enough, were saved.

I guess it is all relative to the situation.  Either way sucks to have to add 2 servos to the damage tally.

Because the JR wheels are a lot larger than the CF arms and it looks goofy if you don't cut them down to match... and I was too lazy to do that when I replaced them last time.  I will be using them when I rebuild, though.

ok, I see. with my torq servos, Dr. Danny gave me some futaba style wheels that he had that fit them, so that helped a lot. now with my new savox servos, they come with a futaba style wheel. although I still have to knock the top off of the bolts with a dremel tool so they will clear the servo case.

Mike,
A little too late, but what I did on my Torq servos is purchase some M2x6 button head bolts that cleared just fine without grinding down.

Try Logo arms. They are stiff, but will strip in a crash. They have JR and Futaba versions. I also have 8717s and I didn't want to use a white JR servo wheel.
