N5/N7 Hybrid for OS GT15HZ Engine
« on: March 23, 2015, 07:08:27 AM »
I have an N5 airframe and intend to fit an OS GT15HZ gasser engine into it.  This engine will probably benefit from the 90 size clutch and will definitely benefit from the 90 size cooling.

For my flying ability, the N5's gear ratio of 8.5:1 will be fine for a long time.

A few N7 parts will be needed and I would appreciate confirmation that my selected parts will fit together.

I plan to use the N7 fan hub, cooling fan, clutch assembly and fan shroud.  And the N5 start shaft, 6x12x4 bearing, 20T pinion, 10x19x5 bearings, clutch bearing block, 6x15x5 and hex adapter.

This should work IF the 20T pinion of the N5 will screw into the N7 clutch bell.  Can anyone please confirm this is the case?

Thanks.

Well, I've ordered an N7 clutch bell to see if the N5 pinion will fit.

If it does then one big hurdle will be behind me.

Well - it seems I might have struck a bit of a snag.

The N5C manual and the N7 manual that I downloaded both give the clutch bell as part no. 610-125.  Surely this can't be right?

Can I buy an N7 clutch bell by itself or do I have to purchase the assembly:

Thanks.

Yes, the N5 and N7 use the same clutch bell.  The pinions and the clutch itself are different between the models.
