Ok Manual gives the option. "if you wish to pin......." My question is are most of you doing this or just tightening the tail box on to the boom?
Thx, Terry

I always pin my tail and tail box on ever model I build. Its the best practice to ensure nothing ever moves.

Does not really need it, the clamps are really good to hold the boom in place, but I still pin the boom anyways.

I watched a tail box sail off one of my Thunder Tiger helicopters a few years ago.....pinned 'em all ever since that day.

I pin all of mine at the tail box and at the inside boom mount closest to the tail transmission. The rear boom mount is a high stress point and probably not the best place to drill holes.

If you have ever seen a boom come off its very bad damage. Happen to me once, only once that how bad it was. Talk about rekit. I pin every boom front and back

I never pin the front of the boom. The rear yes. Lost a tail box once in the corn field after a crash. Much easier to locate if it still attached to the boom. My observation on pinning the front is that it will lead to more frame damage in a crash. Specifically the bending of boom supports. .
Since you have two clamps holding the boom a pin really isn't necessary. Also makes adjusting the tail box alignment a bit easier.
Cheers

I pinned the front & rear on both my birds.. I did use a tad larger bit size to allow for rotating the tail square. I personally don't see it as keeping or losing strength of the boom if done correctly... If she goes in that bad.. Well.. What happens.. happens.
