How well does the N5C crash?
« on: November 04, 2011, 08:35:39 AM »
I do understand that no crash is the same but wanted to know what are the usual suspects after a crash?  Any weak spots?

So far, I have not crashed mine (knock on wood) but I have seen this heli crash a few times. Each time the only damage that had been done to the airframe was link rods, landing gear, tail boom, tail shaft, main shaft, vertical tail fin, or feathering shaft. Typical parts that you would expect to break when the heli goes in.... The airframe is very narrow and rigid making it very sturdy. I haven't seen a broken frame yet. A lot of "how a heli crashes" also has to do with how well the pilot can control the heli. If you are experienced and know you are going to hit an instant before you do and can hit throttle hold or throttle cut. This will save a lot. Also the angle at which you go in at will have a lot to do with what breaks... Over time, you will learn how to "be good at crashing"   ;D

Bel,

I agree 100% with Steve, One thing to add is Main Shaft Bearings. Definitely upper are always going to go. Invest in

Upper Main Bearings
Lower Main Bearings
Main Shaft's
78 mm Pitch Link Rods
Servo Horn's
Tail Out Put Shaft
Tail Spindle
Boom Supports
Tail Control Rods
Main Blades
Tail Blades

Also as Steve said after a while you will Become a good crasher,  Lets just say I have got That Part figured out.. ::)

Many many crashes on mine!
Still have not broken the carbon frames.
Typical items break depending on the type of crash.

I would venture to say it crashes very well. :)

+ 1 for what Matt has just said, I have crashed mine and seen many of my customers crash and they just don't break much thanks to their fantastic tight and rigid design.

Well I can say I Miss red a Tree "Bradford Pare" while doing a High speed Circuit around the back side of it. I guess turning 41 has effected my depth perception  ::), Any ways lets just say The Heli and Rails and Tails are pretty Damn Tough!! I flew in one side and Out the other with a few limbs attached..  One of the most fascinating things I have ever seen and She flew perfect. I swear one of the Guys with Me just ordered an N5c. He couldn't believe it was still Flying!! ;D By the way Matt I need a Canopy, lol it held up great as well except for a few rather big paint chips,   These Helis and blades are the Bomb!!

I've seen an N5 go straight into a tree after a failed bladestopper bailout, with the total damage being a link, and the canopy.

I've had an elevator servo fail during a tailslide, burying the heli straight into the ground, and really only breaking the boom, boom supports, pushrods, main shaft, and blades.

It's a pretty tough heli!
