N5c starter shaft spinning

Hello,

I have a N5C which is running a gas go engine. I went to start the model yesterday and the starter shaft just spins or barely grabs enough to turn the engine over. Do I need to replace the one way bearing? I have an extra but I can't remove the fan shroud. When I try to do so the frame spacer where the shroud is screwed into just spins when I try to remove it. How can I remove the clutch to replace the owb? I'm  finding it to be a real pia to get the clutch out. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I've been looking to replace my Trex 700 with the N7 but if it's as difficult to work on as the n5c I am going to stick with the trex.

Can u not take the bolts out of the clutch bell block & pull it straight out the top? I don't find the N5C hard to work on... The frame spacers I have had to use a pair of needle nose pliers to reach in & hold the spacer as I backed out the screw tho..

All you should need to do is remove the clutch bell and work from the top. Much simpler than pulling the whole motor.

Start by removing the hex coupler, then the 4 3mm screws in the bearing block, remove block, remove clutch bell. Then you should be able to take the clutch off from the top.

Alternatively you could pull the motor,  The problem you are having is the frame spacer is turning instead of threading off. There is a flat spot machined into the spacer to get a hold of it if necessary. A needle nose pliers will do the job.

I already tried to pull from the top but I must be doing something wrong and will try again. Thank you for the help and I'll keep you posted.

The N7 is laid out differently and is VERY easy to work on. I highly recommend it, it's an incredible aircraft and very well designed.

I find the N5C to be the easiest one to pull the motor on actually. if your frame spacer is spinning, you need to tighten the bolt on the other side up until it stops spinning. once you get one side of the shroud off, follow the instructions the others have laid out for you, use needle nose pliers to hold the spacer. the N5C is a very easy heli to work on IMO.

To stop it spinning, I remove one side of the shroud, and on that side, I put a locknut onto a long M3 bolt, and wind that in until the lock nut tightens against the frame. now the shroud bolt on the other side will undo. leave the long bolt in place to aid re assembly.

The N7 is way easier to work on. the engine drops out in less than 5 mins, and no need to remove the exhaust.
