What do I need to get the N7 into the air?
« on: October 08, 2015, 07:33:16 AM »
Hello!

My name is Chris and I am living in Austria. I have made my choice and I want to order a Synergy N7. The last time I have flown a nitro was in the late 1990s (Hirobo GPH 346 and Robbe Futura SE). That's why I have for now no nitro equipment at all and besides I have forgotten nearly all my knowledge how to run a nitro motor. Firstly I wanted to buy a Hirobo Turbulence V2, but then I have rearranged my choice. There are not really alternatives to Hirobo for nitros, but I hope, Synergy will not disapoint me. I trust that Matt Botos can deliver spare parts for the next 5 years for the N7 (not the way Thunder Tiger does ...). I am flying electric helis since 5 years now (Henseleit).

I need your help. What do I need exactly to get the N7 into the air?

1.) Starter (I will buy the Dynatron from Sullivan)
2.) Starter shaft (I will buy the shaft from Sullivan too)
3.) Crank locking tool: Which one? Link?
4.) Which engine? OS 105? Which one exactly? Do you have a link?
5.) 5 Servos, FBL system, receiver
6.) 2S lipo: Capacity?
7.) Main blades: Which one?
8.) Tail blades: Which one?
9.) Governor: Which one?
10.) Do I need a header tank?
11.) Which muffler? Hatori? OS?

Thanks for your help!

Chris

1.  Good Choice recommended by Matt Botos.  I added one of these for a complete solution. http://www.afineredgemfg.com
I chose the 4000mah Mikata battery and charger because the combo was on sale and less expensive than the 3000mah battery and separate charger. You will need to shop around.

2.  Good choice

3.  I think this will be determined by your motor choice.

4.  I am running this one.  Very pleased with it.  Unfortunately it is OOS at Rons. http://www.ronlund.com/rcheli-prod/NITOS91HZRG/OSMG1980.html

5a.  Personal preference. I have RJX on my N7 and BK on my E5.  Both work well.
5b.  Mikado NEO with Rescue.  It just works!!
5c.  Rx is dependent on your Tx choice.  I have Mikado Vbar Control radio and love it!!

6.  I am running a Pulse Ultra 5000mah

7.  Rail 696 or 716  I am running the Rail 716 F3C.

8.  Rail 106 or 116.  I am running the Rail 106

9.  Mikado NEO internal nitro gov. None better

10.  No!,

11.  I. Have a Hatori Pipe.

12.  Glo Ignitor. I chose the Switchglo Pro.  Works great.  http://www.zrcusa.com

13.  FBL Rotors. Titanium Turnbuckles for ease of setup and they just look cool.  http://www.fblrotors.com/FBL-ROTORS-N7-Titanium-Turnbuckle-Set-Cyclic-Pitch-Set-_p_663.html

14.  FBL Rotors Ball Link Pliers. The Synergy link balls are 5.5mm vs 5mm of the others.  You need pliers with a larger throat.  These pliers are the best on the planet.  Pricey but worth every penny.  http://www.fblrotors.com/FBL-Ball-Link-Pliers-for-47-60-MM-links-_p_458.html

15.  On/Off switch.  I added one of these guys in the battery lead. Works great. I made the plugs myself with JB Weld and the Deans male connector.  http://aztechaeromodels.com/?route=product/product&path=61_71_83&product_id=424

16.  You will need fuel pinch off devices and filters for your onboard fuel plumbing. I use the Align devices.

17.  I changed the tank clunk to the OS Bubbleless. Works great.  Never have to work about the  type  disintegrating

18.  Fuel pump of some type.  Your choice!

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum!

As Roger mentioned, your choices for the starter and wand are great.

For a crankshaft locking tool, if you buy the O.S. Crankshaft Clamp Piston Locking Tool (.70 and .91 Engines), part number OS-71530500, it will work with any of the large engines.

The OS 105HZ-R is a great motor.  It's really easy to tune and makes a lot of power.  Unfortunately, Hatori quit making mufflers for the 105 this year, so you're limited to either the OS Powerboost or the M-studio pipes unless you can find someone selling a used one.

I've been ordering my nitro engines and parts from RCJapan.net and their prices have been way lower than the prices here in the USA.

I run the BK brushless servos on my N7.  They have great torque, speed, and are not really power hungry.

What type of radio and FBL controller are you currently using on your electric?  That might be a good place to start in determining what FBL controller and governor to use.  If you fly Futaba, the CGY-750 is a great choice because it's not only a good FBL controller but has an excellent governor, as well.  It's not the only one with a built-in governor, though.

I use 4000mah 2S lipos.  I have one GensAce and one Pulse Ultra.

Rail 696 mains and Rail 106 tails are an excellent choice to go along with the N7.

I use a Lynx MOAS fuel tank clunk and I do not use a header tank.
