Clutch bell play
« on: January 09, 2016, 05:38:40 AM »
Hey Guys,

Just finishing off my N7 build and one of the more experienced guys at my local field said I should have about 1mm of play in the clutch bell. I followed the instructions and watched Chris' build video and there is no play when you snug that pinion nut up to the radial bearing.

Should I be allowing a small amount of play in the bell with that nut?

My X50 has play in the clutch bell which is why I'm questioning this advice.

Thanks

No there should not be that much play in the clutch bell. Use the nut on the pinion to take up the slack. You do not need to crank down the nut. I just lightly hand tighten mine and use a drop of blue loctite to hold it in place. Not to much as you might want to take it apart.

You do not want to tighten the nut to much as it will put extra stress on the pinion bearings. To loose and you have clutch stack problems.
