MKS X8 Question

Hello everybody!
Im getting ready to configure my rebuilt 806 with MKS X8 servos and i have a servo horn question. the aftermarket Metal Servo horn made by MKS for those servos have an 18mm distance hole and a 21mm. I know matt's horn is a 20mm. if i had to pick a distance, would i pick 18 or21? any ideas?

Probably 21. It will also depend on your FBL unit. Each gyro is a little different in regards to the recommended throw range.
I would try 21 first though.

The X8 servos have more throw than other normal servos so I have found I have had to go inwards on the arms to keep the resolution good with these servos. I would definitely try the 18mm first, when I ran them in my E5s I had to go in to there to get my Vbar up to reasonable numbers, on 20mm I was well below the green levels for cyclic and collective. On my Protos Max 800 that I've moved the X8 into I've gone in to 16mm to get good resolution where stock is also recommended as 20mm.

they travel much much further than normal servos. but going 18 will screw up your geometry. is simply lowered my numbers a bit and was conscious when I was flying not to dig into the corners much.

there will be a programmer for these servos released this year to help with this....

I found backing off the numbers in the Vbar down low enough for these servos hurt the feel of the Heli (E5s) a lot. Using the 18mm arms and bringing the Vbar back to the bottom of its ideal range gave a much better flying Heli even if the physical geometry was less than ideal.

hasn't bothered any of mine at all. they feel the exact same. its all in the tuning of the FBL settings.

IIRC all of these have these servos in them, and neos.

one issue people have with the vbar is the 8 degrees cyclic they claim works in the setup. it doesn't, not when you fly hard. it ends up needing to be around 10.5-11.5 for it to compensate properly. they recommend much lower to keep people from boom striking. very well known fact. and collective doesn't bother the feel at all, bc its not controlled. I numbers are still around 90, maybe 95 on the N7s.

I run X8s with the round MKS hub and 20mm arms from Custom Heli Parts.
